Nova Wallet: The Best Staking App — 2024 Report

Welcome everyone to our third deep dive into the figures that showcase the current staking landscape across Polkadot, Kusama, and Aleph Zero to compare different products in those ecosystems! We are excited to show you all our latest achievements, using on-chain data to determine the usage and popularity of different products.
By the end of this article, you will see that Nova Wallet is the best and most popular app for staking DOT, KSM, and AZERO tokens.
As of the end of December 2024, Nova Wallet has achieved the following amount of tokens staked using our app:
- Over 9.9 MILLION DOT staked (~$68,400,000)
- Over 222 THOUSAND KSM staked (~$8,000,000)
- Over 17.6 MILLION AZERO staked (~$6,300,000)
We have previously released two articles [1] [2] with a similar premise to this one which combined cover the period of September 2023 — May 2024. This article provides insights into data up until the end of December 2024.
Polkadot DOT Staking
In this section, we will analyze four different sets of data. You can find out more about the methodology for acquiring this data in our first article.
Namely, we will focus on the following:
- New DOT staked since September 2023 for ecosystem wallets
- Total DOT staked for ecosystem wallets
- New DOT staked since September 2023 for ecosystem wallets and LSD protocols
- Total DOT staked for ecosystem wallets and LSD protocols
We will analyze data from the 3 most popular wallets in the Polkadot ecosystem: Nova Wallet, Talisman, and SubWallet, as well as the 2 most popular LSD protocols; Bifrost and Acala.
New DOT Staked — DOT Wallets
As we have the past 2 times, let’s take a look at the amount of new DOT that has been staked with each wallet staking option from the start of September 2023 until the end of December 2024.
Nova Wallet remains in the lead with regard to the total number of new DOTs that have been staked since the start of September 2023.
Total DOT Staked — DOT Wallets
Another relevant metric as always is the total amount of DOT staked for each Polkadot wallet, so let’s take a look at the total amount of DOT staked with each wallet from the start of September 2023 until the end of December 2024.
We can clearly see from the two charts above that Nova Wallet is the leading wallet in the Polkadot ecosystem as per hard on-chain metrics, not only in terms of newly acquired stake, but also the overall amount of DOT staked by users.
New DOT Staked — Wallets and LSDs
Let’s compare Polkadot wallets versus some other projects from the Polkadot ecosystem that are providing users with a popular DeFi primitive — Liquid Staking. We are using data from Dune Analytics to get information about the total amount of DOT that is being staked via liquid staking for Acala and Bifrost.
We can see that Nova Wallet leads the pack in terms of newly staked DOT.
Total DOT Staked — Wallets and LSDs
When we look at the total amount of staked DOT for wallets and LSDs the situation is similar.
We can see that Nova Wallet remains the leader for staked DOT, not only in terms of ecosystem wallets but also in comparison to LSD protocols.
Kusama KSM Staking
In this section we will analyze two sets of data, you can find out more about the methodology for acquiring this data in our first article.
We will focus on the following:
- New KSM staked since September 2023 for ecosystem wallets
- Total KSM staked for ecosystem wallets
We will analyze data from the 3 most popular wallets in the Kusama ecosystem; Nova Wallet, Talisman, and SubWallet.
New KSM Staked — Wallets
Let’s take a look at the amount of new KSM which has been staked with each wallet’s staking options from the start of September 2023 until the end of December 2024.
We can see that Nova Wallet again remains in the lead in terms of the amount of KSM being staked.
Total KSM Staked — Wallets
Let’s also take a look at the total amount of KSM staked with the top 3 ecosystem wallets.
The total amount of KSM staked paints a similar picture with Nova Wallet comfortably in the lead.
Aleph Zero AZERO Staking
In this section we will analyze two sets of data, you can find out more about our methodology for acquiring this data in our first article.
We will focus on the following:
- New AZERO staked since September 2023
- Total AZERO staked
We will analyze data from the top 3 ecosystem wallets: Nova Wallet, Talisman, and Subwallet.
New AZERO Staked
Just like before, let’s first take a look at the new cumulative AZERO staked with each of these projects from the start of September 2023 until the end of December 2024.
Nova Wallet is showing a continued organic upward trend in terms of staked AZERO and remains the leading app for staking AZERO.
Total AZERO Staked
We will also take a look at the total amount of AZERO staked in our final chart.
Much like the other ecosystems, we can see that Nova Wallet is firmly in the lead in terms of staked AZERO.
What We’ve Learned
Our user-focused approach continues to drive adoption for Nova Wallet across multiple ecosystems. Staking trends across these ecosystems have had significant fluctuations in recent months due to market volatility — this can be best seen with a large amount of users unstaking due to the DOT token’s price appreciation. Even taking this into account, the data presented here underscores Nova Wallet’s resilience and its role as the preferred application for active users to stake tokens in the greater ecosystem.
